San Tan Valley Resident tells PCSO: "I Got Your 6"

deputylevar-and-samantha

San Tan Valley resident, Samantha Shorter, has shared an amazing story with us about her battle with domestic violence and the support she received from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, most specifically, Deputy Levar.  Here is her story in her own words.

I have never came out and publicly spoke about what I'm about to say. From 2013 to 2017 I was ensnared in a very bad domestic violence relationship. The Pinal County Sheriff's Office made several attempts to extirpate the clutch from the tormentor. But due to fear I would always let the person who hurt me come back.

Late one night the Sheriff was called out again, the 2 deputies came in, searched my home for him, but he had taken off. This time instead of just leaving, the deputy stayed (he also had been out on almost every other call as well).  He spoke with me, pleaded with me, he tried everything to just get me to say something so he could do his job and take him to jail. He told me he knows i was hurt. He could see the swelling by my eye, the redness in my eyes, dried blood in my ear and by my mouth, red marks on my arms and face. He said "Please just let me help you. You don't deserve this.  You deserve so much better please let me protect you."

Every time i just shook my head looking down. This deputy stayed for over a hour talking with me. Finally he got the call over the radio that the person was in custody.  He said that he just slapped me. At that point the deputy was able to arrest the person that hurt me.  As the deputy told me he was going to take him in, he gave me his card. Before the deputy got in his truck to leave he turned to me and said "remember what i told you."

Two weeks later this person was picked up by Gilbert PD for different charges and has since been sitting in jail and os now serving a prison sentence.

That night was the last night i was ever hurt by this person. November will be 3 years.  I have been free of him. I am so grateful that I am alive today.

Tonight i saw that very same deputy, Deputy Levar.  I hugged him. We talked about how I was doing.  He met my baby and saw my middle daughter.  He also met the amazing man I'm with today and I was finally able to say "Thank You So Much" for what he did and said to me. I never forgot his words and those words helped me so much to get out and stay out. If it was not for him, for that night, for him taking the time to help protect and serve, I wouldn't be here today.

To see the look in his eyes tonight and to be able to do this face to face was amazing. To be able to thank this deputy for saving my life because I know he saved my life that night.  Words can't even describe how special it was for both the deputy and myself.

Our brave men and women in law enforcement put their lives on the line every single day to protect us and this is just one example of how the men and women in blue do that.

Domestic violence calls are one of the most unpredictable dangerous calls they can get. I will always stand and support the brave courageous heroes who protect all of us.

To all the men and women in blue please be safe and just know you are supported. We got your 6!
